General Consul of Italy to Philadelphia's Visit to Charlotte- April 23-26, 2026
Charlotte recently played host to a whirlwind of diplomacy, culture, and commerce as we welcomed Consul General Frandi for an official three-day visit. From the bustling industrial hubs of the Queen City to the refined galleries of the Mint Museum, the weekend was a testament to the thriving Italian-American partnership in North Carolina.
Day 1: Economic Impact and Professional Networking:
The visit kicked off on Friday with a deep dive into the economic engines of our region. The Consul spent his first day touring five prominent Italian businesses in the Charlotte area. These visits provided a firsthand look at the sophisticated operations driving local growth and creating vital jobs for our community.
The momentum continued into the evening with a high-level networking reception hosted in partnership with the World Affairs Council of Charlotte (WACC). Held at the Kask Americas showroom in Southend, the event brought together Charlotte’s top business leaders to engage directly with the Consul.
To cap off a productive first day, the CCI-NC Board of Directors hosted an intimate dinner at Aqua e Vino. It was a night of authentic flavors and celebration, as the Consul met with Chef Gringolon and welcomed our two newest board members, Monica and Daniel, to the leadership team.
Day 2: Community Roots and "Coveted Couture":
Saturday focused on the heart of the Italian community and the heights of Charlotte’s cultural scene. The morning began with a warm Colazione (breakfast) hosted by Club Italiani in Charlotte, where the Consul greeted local families and residents.
The highlight of the evening was the Mint Museum’s Coveted Couture gala at the Mint Museum Randolph. This wasn't just any gala—it was a 17th-century Italian-themed celebration marking the monumental opening of the new Caravaggio exhibit. Amidst the glamour on the museum lawn, the community showed incredible generosity during the live auction, raising over $50,000 to support the museum's mission and future programming.
Day 3: Art History and the Future of Italian Language:
The final day of the tour focused on the intellectual and educational pillars of our community. Hon. Frandi attended the public opening of the Caravaggio exhibit, which featured a masterclass in art history: a lecture by Professor Cristina Acidini of the Roberto Longhi Foundation. As a world-renowned specialist in Renaissance art, Professor Acidini provided invaluable context on Caravaggio’s Baroque legacy, enriching the experience for all in attendance.
Before concluding his visit, the Consul made a special stop at the CCI-NC Italian Weekend School. Visiting with students, teachers, and parents, he saw firsthand the passion involved in preserving our heritage.
In a Facebook post, the Consul commended our dedicated volunteers, noting that their commitment is the key to passing the beauty of the Italian language and culture to the next generation.
