Celebrating Italy’s Legacy, Locally
On June 1st, 2024, CCI-NC had the pleasure of celebrating Festa della Repubblica alongside members of North Carolina’s Italian business community at a private gathering hosted by Opera Carolina.

We were honored to welcome Cristiana Mele, Consul General of Italy in Philadelphia, along with business leaders and friends of the Italian-American community in Charlotte. Guests were treated to Italian-inspired tapas, a curated wine selection, and a warm atmosphere of celebration—complete with a red carpet entrance.
Throughout the evening, guests heard from several distinguished speakers:
-
Dr. Valentina Cecchi, Honorary Consul of Italy to North Carolina and President of CCI-NC
-
Cristiana Mele, Consul General of Italy in Philadelphia
-
Claudio Ferri, Deputy Director of Opera Carolina and CCI-NC Board Member
-
Dr. Shanté Williams, General Director of Opera Carolina
-
Marco Carbone, CCI-NC Board Member
Each speaker touched upon the significance of the occasion and reaffirmed CCI-CN's commitment to strengthening ties between Italy and North Carolina through cultural exchange, community building, and business collaboration.
Why We Celebrate
Every year on June 2nd, Italy commemorates Festa della Repubblica, the day Italians voted in 1946 to transition from a monarchy to a republic. It marks a pivotal moment in Italian history—one that shaped the democratic values and civic spirit we honor today.
In Italy, the day is celebrated with parades, concerts, fireworks, and community gatherings. Here in North Carolina, we’re proud to continue the tradition in our own way—bringing people together to celebrate Italian heritage, culture, and the vibrant connections that continue to grow between our two communities.
